You're Not Getting "Just" Another Personal Trainer.
My name is Ismaeel, but you can call me Ish.
I’ve been a health and fitness nut for 12 years and started coaching on the gym floor in August 2020. After gyms reopened post-pandemic, I became a full-time personal trainer at one of the busiest corporate gyms in the city. My job security depended on hours spent training, and it wasn’t uncommon to see 10+ clients a day with only 15-minute breaks. Any free time? I was expected to be out prospecting for more clients.
Over time, frustration built. I could only support clients during their workouts, and that didn’t sit right with me. I didn’t feel comfortable charging the gym’s rates when I couldn’t offer the kind of value I believed in.
So I left — and started Backed By Ish.
This is my vision for health and lifestyle coaching: having your back beyond the gym floor, simplifying nutrition, and building lifestyle practices that, with consistency, transform your life.

I’m always chasing new knowledge and applying it. I am constantly refining my services. My pursuit towards a Master’s in Industrial Organizational Psychology (aka the study of how to make work not suck) is just one example of that.
My background helps clients integrate fitness into their daily routines, juggle career or family demands, and build a sustainable lifestyle, not just a gym program.
I’m passionate about empowering driven individuals to become informed health consumers. Too often in Canada, medication is prescribed for things that could be prevented or even reversed through lifestyle change. My mission is to empower you to take ownership of your health, feeling confident in every decision you make for your body and mind... No matter what life throws at you
